I have tried a few oils typical linseed oil teak oil etc over years, but pure tung oil is good on wood. bought a litre of it of fleabay £12 its gone up a bit now at £14 but its cheap and it will last you years just maintaining a finnish etc. Fleabay no . It is a lot of effort to create an oil finish from scratch but once built up it takes very little to keep it nice. If the grain is open you can get the full stock finishing kit including seals and grain fillers from the same people as the oil.

A few spots simply applied by hand will soon fill the open pores of your stock & produce a fine surface sheen to the wood. This stock care product is simple & rewarding to use. well,im currently oiling a stock with ccl conditioning oil. looks good so far and not gloss. i've been putting enough on to see it but not over wetting the stock with oil,rubbing in well,half an hour later i rub the excess off and then buff it. had 3 coats so far. another 3 will do!lol will put some pics up of before and after when its done.
